About This Spot
Stepping into Restaurante la Casa de la Tortilla in Chamberí feels like slipping into a beloved neighborhood spot where time moves at its own easy rhythm. The air hums quietly with chatter and the occasional clink of glasses, inviting a sense of familiarity and warmth that immediately puts you at ease. This is a place where the day-to-day bustle of Madrid softens, replaced by the unhurried joy of sharing good food and simple moments.
The atmosphere is comfortable and unpretentious—a genuine local tavern where the focus remains on the connection between kitchen, bar, and table. Behind the counter, you might catch sight of the lady carefully crafting tortillas to order, a small ritual that reflects the respect for tradition that defines the space. The rhythm here is relaxed but lively, especially during the lunch rush when the room fills with neighbors and visitors alike, all drawn to the inviting scents wafting from the kitchen.
Food at La Casa de la Tortilla is deeply rooted in regional flavors and everyday pleasures. The menu unfolds like a conversation, offering dishes that range from richly comforting stews to the humble yet revered Spanish tortilla, where each bite carries a sense of history. Paellas and fideuás appear alongside cold beers pulled from local breweries, encouraging a leisurely pace where eating becomes as much about savoring stories and company as it is about the food itself.
This is not a place for polished presentation or fuss but for authentic, heartfelt cooking and genuine hospitality. Whether you’re lingering over a hearty arroz con bogavante or pairing a crisp glass of house wine with pulpo or gambas al ajillo, you’re stepping into a living neighborhood tradition — one where the joy of good eating feels perfectly at home.

A real authentic place, we visited in 2022! The lady was making the traditional tortillas front of us, as we wanted. It was super delicious

Came during the lunch rush so it was super busy but we were fine with having to wait for a table. The staff don’t speak much English but the lady at the bar went to the effort of using Google Translate with us (have not experienced this anywhere else in Spain). Ordered items off the day menu so food was simple but everything was delicious and cooked well. We wanted to try their tortilla because of their name but the waiter was honest enough to tell us we had already ordered “mucho comida” . It was indeed a lot of food (great value for 12€!) and we left very full and happy.

This place is what everyone needs, if you love the good food you can't miss this place. I had a great lunch and a very good time here. I would suggest to book before showing up there as they're always full.

A good Iberian place with cold beer and decent food. Spanish omlette is very tasty there. The place is not posh but if you want to dine in an authentic Iberian tavern, it's a good option.

Love it, really love it. For me there are the best shrimps on the word Gambas al ajillo and the king of the plates is : Arroz con Bogavantes, it's like a soup with big shrimps A huge soup, like for battalion.

By far the standout place on a very standout street for menú del día! This please is very typically Spanish, great selection of Spanish food (paella, fideuá, ensaladas for primero - meats and fish for secundo plato). 12.50€ is very reasonable for a menú in the centre of Madrid. Very good atmosphere especially at around 2pm/2.30pm when the place starts to pick up! Great food and very reasonable. My favourite on Hartzenbusch street!
